Alandra's adventure at Okapion

Every year, we enjoy collaborating with an intern who is eager to grow in the field. At Okapion, you have the opportunity to spend six months working with the team, learning by doing, and contributing to real projects. We invest a lot of time in finding the right match, so you feel at home quickly. Alandra interned with us and had an incredibly educational and enjoyable experience. We asked her about her internship at Okapion and what she learned during her time with us.
How did you experience your role as an intern at Okapion?
Extremely positive, I was warmly welcomed which made me feel at ease. I received enough guidance to get started but wasn't spoon-fed everything. I was regularly given feedback and tips to improve myself. I experienced tremendous growth, which will surely benefit me in the future!
What is the craziest or funniest thing you experienced?
I think the last day was the funniest. I created a quiz about myself and music to test the team's knowledge. It honestly went better than expected, although they did struggle a bit with the Gen-Z and music sections. We ended it with karaoke, which I usually resist, but I actually enjoyed it this time.
How did you find the projects you worked on?
The projects I worked on weren't just made up to keep me busy. They were for real clients, giving me a realistic view of how things work in the ‘real world’. I found them challenging because the B2B sector was new to me, requiring a different mindset than I was used to. I had to focus not only on the visual but especially on the functional aspect of a design. I felt incredibly well supported by everyone I collaborated with at that time.
What did your work week at Okapion look like?
At the beginning of the week, during the MMM, we reflected on the past week and planned for the coming week. I worked on various projects, so no two weeks were the same. I collaborated with different people but also had the responsibility to work independently. I worked three days in the office and one day per week from home. Working from home was never boring because we had plenty of fun calls or brainstormed together about work.
How would you describe Okapion?
Okapion is a design agency that is professional but not stiff. It is a close-knit team of passionate UX designers with an eye for detail in their work.
Not unimportant, how is the atmosphere?
I think the strength of Okapion is partly in how we interact with each other. It’s a small company, allowing you to build a personal connection with everyone. The trust in each other is high, which was very important to me. The work environment strikes a perfect balance between friendliness and productivity; there’s always music playing, and you can approach anyone with questions.

What is your golden tip for students looking for an internship?
Show what you find interesting and how it connects with Okapion. Ask questions about that or highlight a case that inspires you. During the interview, they like to see your personality and humor, as it’s important for both parties to be a good fit. Showing enthusiasm and sharing inspiration and motivation also earn points.
