Every year, we enjoy collaborating with an intern who is eager to grow in the field. At Okapion, you have the opportunity to spend six months working with the team, learning by doing, and contributing to real projects. We invest a lot of time in finding the right match, so you feel at home quickly. Alandra interned with us and had an incredibly educational and enjoyable experience. We asked her about her internship at Okapion and what she learned during her time with us.

What did you expect from your internship at Okapion?

I expected my internship to really feel like a typical 9-5; long days without much variation. In the end, it's also a 9-5, but luckily it didn't feel that way. The hours flew by because it wasn't a quiet office where you only speak to everyone during breaks. I was very open to learning about Okapion and the field, which I certainly managed to do during my internship.

How did you experience your place as an intern within Okapion?

Very positive, I was welcomed with open arms, which put me at ease. I was sufficiently guided to help me find my way, but not everything was spoon-fed to me. I regularly received feedback and tips to improve myself. I experienced tremendous growth that I can certainly take with me into the future!

What is the craziest or funniest thing you experienced?

I think the last day was the funniest. I created a quiz about myself and music to test the team's knowledge. Honestly, it went better than expected, although they did drop the ball on the Gen-Z and music part. To end it, we sang karaoke, which I usually am against, but I ended up enjoying it.

How did you find the projects you worked on?

The projects I worked on weren't concocted just to keep me busy; they were for real clients, which gave me a good insight into how things work in the 'real world.' I found them challenging because the b2b sector was new to me, and I had to adopt a different mindset than I was used to. I had to focus not just on the visual but especially on the functional aspect of design. I found that I was extremely well-supported by everyone I worked with at the time.

What did your workweek at Okapion look like?

At the beginning of the week, during the MMM (Monday Morning Meeting), we looked back on the previous week and made plans for the upcoming week. I worked on different projects, so no week was the same. I collaborated with various people but also had the responsibility to work independently. I worked 3 days at the office and 1 day a week from home. Working from home was never boring because we had plenty of fun calls or brainstormed together about work.

How would you describe Okapion?

Okapion is a design agency that is professional but not stiff. It's a close-knit team of passionate UX designers with an eye for detail in their work.

Not unimportant, how is the atmosphere?

I think Okapion's strength lies in the way people interact with each other. It's a small company where you can build a personal connection with everyone. Trust in each other is high, which was very important to me. The work atmosphere is a perfect balance between fun and productive work, there's always music playing, and you can approach anyone with questions.

For whom is Okapion the perfect internship company?

Okapion suits developing and curious students who are open to learning quickly yet qualitatively. It's a place where you can grow tremendously fast and receive appropriate responsibility.
If you love bad jokes alongside hard work, then you're in the right place here!

What is your golden tip for students looking for an internship?

Show what you find interesting and how it aligns with Okapion. Ask questions or highlight a case that inspires you. During the interview, they love to see your personality and humor, as it's important for both sides that you fit well together. Showing enthusiasm and sharing inspiration and motivation also scores points.

Alandra, thank you!

We were super happy with Alandra as an intern. Her story shows how much you can learn in a short time. In the coming half year, we're giving someone else the chance to grow in Enterprise UX.
